Day Four Nap Time Update
It's officially anniversary day! We walked from our Air B&B to our Air B&B via an approximately 4.6 mile touristy and deliciousness-filled adventure. And if anyone ever asks you, yes, Seattle has a painful quantity of steep hills, with a large number of buildings having an entrance on one side of the building at floor one and on the other side of the building at floor three.
Our adventure today included a stop at a coffee shop for some caffeine and a smoked Gouda croissant (#liveyourhipsterlife), a brief crossing of paths with one of the most delightful bookstore owners I've ever encountered (he went to Hawaii recently, and this place is much better for tourists, it seems) in the Pike Place Market, some waterfront wandering, a dish of vegetable ramen, multiple mountainous hill climbs that have thoroughly broken the spirits of my calves, and a delightful stop in the Seattle Central Public Library.
Now, when it comes to libraries, I have got to say, this one will be memorable. There are four floors of "book spiral", don't worry I didn't understand what that meant either, but I'll explain. This building is eleven or twelve floors of book shrine wrapped in modern art (I cannot begin to explain how actively I am avoiding saying the word "story" in association with the levels of library). The "book spiral" is four floors worth of library stacks that ramp/wrap around a central staircase. At one end of a row of stacks you are on floor 6.5 and at the other you are on floor 7.5 with no actual stair steps required, but just a gradual ramp of floor (don't worry the shelves are all platformed to be level). If you choose to walk the stairs you will begin at one side of the building on floor nine and gradually decent, bisecting the spiral, to the sixth floor at the other side of the building with a landing to enter each "floor" of the various spirals. If I'm not making sense, Google it, because it's startling whimsical for someone of my bibliophilic leaning and my respect for libraries didn't allow for video to be recorded.
After a soul cleansing amble through the book spiral labyrinth, we wandered to a new brewery we'd never heard of before and had an amazing experience we almost regret having because we know we can't get their products again any time soon.
Now, we find ourselves settled in for a brief nap before our next adventure: Uber/ferry ride/dinner
See you next in Vancouver or Portland or something....
